Volunteering Queensland’s Submission to the 2022 – 2023 State Budget

In the 2022 – 2023 Queensland state budget, Volunteering Queensland is calling upon the Queensland Government to support the volunteer sector through a range of targeted funding initiatives. These programs are designed to tackle some of the most pressing concerns facing volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations: the devastating impact of natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, the role volunteers play in supporting people in need, access to volunteer insurance, programs to boost recruitment and retention, support for volunteer enabling organisations, and harnessing volunteering to address social isolation and loneliness.

Recommendations

  1. Immediate relief for volunteer involving organisations impacted by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, including grants, resources and a youth volunteering initiative
  2. Core funding to enhance engagement and outcomes for two programs vital to Queensland’s resilience: Emergency Volunteering Community Response to Extreme Weather (EV CREW) and Care Army
  3. A broader, more collaborative approach to volunteer sector support: coordinated engagement of volunteer support organisations and funding to investigate accessible insurance options
  4. Unlocking the potential of volunteering to address social isolation and loneliness in Queensland

In early February, Volunteering Queensland met with the Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy to present these recommendations on behalf of the volunteering sector. We thank the Department for their consideration.
